Career Mock-Interview Sessions for Under-Graduates Engineering Students for Tech Companies in Silicon Valley at HKUST
HKETA Youth was invited by Career Centre of The Hong Kong of University of Science and Technology (HKUST) to make few sessions of career mock-interview practicum with engineering under-graduates on 5th Dec, 2017 at HKUST.
Our Youth Chairman, Derek Lee made a few of mock-interview practicum sessions with event facilitator to share the insight and skill-set on the recruitment interview and internship program to tech companies in silicon valley.
HKETA Youth Organized Youth Forum (Intellectual Property (IP) Patent in Commercialization Process)
HKETA Youth organized the Youth Forum (Networking Practicum in Small Talks Circles) on 10th Nov 2017, 6:30-9:00 pm in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The theme of this forum was “Prospective & Career Opportunity for Engineering in Hong Kong and Asia Pacific”. This Youth Forum was one of our Youth Sub-committee’s major activities this year. It was designed for UG/PG students and young alumni in local Universities for gathering and networking fellowship in our Youth platform.
In this forum, Dr. Teresa Law, Founder and Director, Akos Advanced Technology and also, our IP advisor of our Youth, as a speaker to a talk : "Intellectual Property (IP) Patent in Commercialization Process" to our students and shared with them to understand the importance of Intellectual Property (IP) rights and patents how to fit into the business model during the commercialization of the product or service to be invented.
Participants were primarily from UG/PG, young alumni and startups from PolyU. In the final sharing session, our industry guests, Alvin Lee, CEO, Armitage Technologies and Wilson Chan, Senior Manager, Strategy and Business Development, CISCO Systems, Asia Pacific and Japan Regions shared the challenges, opportunities, and prospects of career/startup development in Hong Kong and regional countries.

HKETA Youth Organized a Networking Dinner with the Theme of STEM Business, Technology and Service
HKETA Youth organized a Networking Dinner with the theme of “STEM Business, Technology and Service”. It was successfully held on 27th Oct, 2017 at Happiness Cuisine at Science Park.
Over 50 participants including guests, industry fellows and young students from local universities joined our dinner event. Our guests made a great talk nd discussion to explore the current STEM situation in Hong Kong and how STEM can be developed and integrated as a service oriented to education sector. Technology STEM company also presented our participants current STEM product trend and how is the future education model by STEM focus.
Three talks were presented by the following professionals from industry :

Industry Sharing of Network Practicum for Msc Engineering Research at HKUST
HKETA Youth and other industry specialists was invited by Career Centre of The Hong Kong of University of Science and Technology (HKUST) to make an industry sharing for a group of 40 engineering research of MSc post-graduates in form of panel discussion and small talk circles on 24th Oct 2017 at HKUST. The following major topics are discussed and shared by the industry guests.
1. Sharing of graduate employment survery by facilitator
2. The hiring trend of next year
3. How our Msc students of engineering do to tap into the job market
4. Any industry trends worth sharing
Our Youth Chairman, Derek Lee shared his industry experience on Hong Kong and Regional Asia job markets to the postgraduate students. He also shared how to prepare for engineering jobs and future career development.
Wise Friends Competition for Next Generation of Payment Technology by BBPOS at HKSTP
The 2nd Wise Friends Competition was organized by BBPOS, an e-Payment Solution Provider in Hong Kong, a leader in payment technology with global business. This Fintech competition was the aim of encouraging innovation and creative thinking of new generation of potential payment developers from local Universities and students. Numbers of innovative ideas and projects were well presented from HKUST, HKBU, CityU and PolyU on 9th June 2017 at the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (HKSTP).
Our Youth Chairman, Derek Lee and Deputy Chairman, Victor Choi were invited to be one of judges for this competition.

HKIE Electronics Symposium 2017 at HKSTP
The Electronics Symposium 2017 was organized by The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), Electronics Division (END) and supported by HKETA on 20th April 2017 at the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (HKSTP). The theme of this symposium this year was “Future Cities = Smart Cities ?” and with 1 keynote, 7 talks, & 2 panel discussions were provided with the topics of interest including smart energy & transportation, IoT network, Connected Vehicles and etc.
Our HKETA Youth was actively participated in the Organizing Committee (OC) team of this event in the past years. Our Youth Chairman, Derek Lee was invited to be Vice Chairman of the OC team this year to support and organize the industry talks and programs for the symposium.

Industry Sharing of Network Practicum for Electronic & Computer Engineering of Under-Graduates at HKUST
HKETA Youth was invited by Career Centre of The Hong Kong of University of Science and Technology (HKUST) to make an industry sharing for year two and three of under-graduates from BEng (Dept of ECE, Electronic & Computer Engineering) in form of small talk circles on 15th Feb 2017 at HKUST. Over 200 students were attended this event and the main theme of this sharing was career development and interview skills.
Our Youth Chairman, Derek Lee and other industry specialists shared their views and skills specially on the industry of manufacturing and engineering areas.
Industry Sharing of Network Practicum for Engineering Research of Post-Graduates at HKUST
HKETA Youth was invited by Career Centre of The Hong Kong of University of Science and Technology (HKUST) to make an industry sharing for a group of 50 engineering research post-graduates (MSC from Engineering) in form of small talk circles on 10th Feb 2017 at HKUST.
Our Youth Chairman, Derek Lee shared his industry and startup experience on the entrepreneur process to the postgraduate students. He also shared with the students the opportunities and challenges in Hong Kong and other countries for the product commercialization process.
HKETA Youth Organized Youth Forum (Entrepreneurial Learning for Tech Business)
HKETA Youth organized the Youth Forum (Networking Practicum in Small Talks Circles) on 20th Dec 2016, 6:30-9:00 pm in the Hong Kong Productive Council. The theme of this forum was “Entrepreneurial Learning for Tech Business”. This Youth Forum was one of our Youth Sub-committee’s major activities in a quarterly basis. It was designed for UG/PG students and young alumni in local Universities for gathering and networking fellowship in our Youth platform.
In this forum, Francis Wong, Executive Director of Sumitomo Corporation Equity Asia was invited as our guest speaker to present a talk "How Venture Capitalists Screen Deals" to our students and young professional how venture capitals invest the early stage of startup and key areas to pay attention. Participants could interacted with our speaker and sharing on current technology investment situation in the market, new global investment trends, the challenge and opportuntiy of technology start-ups in the global market and advice on business models and development for the young start-ups.

2. Typical Hurdles for Early Stage Deals
3. Common Mistakes by Some New Tech Entrepreneurs

Participants including our HKETA youth members, industry specialists and UG/PG from HKU, HKUST, CUHK and PolyU with different faculties of computer engineering, science, electronics engineering, and business) joined our forum. We had a lot of open and insight discussions under two round of small talks in our sharing sessions.
During the forum, our two industry partners of HKETA Youth : Arrow Asia Pac and Ingdan were invited to share their company, services and facilities to our students how they make the start-ups facility successful in the market from professional engineering service to marketing platform standpoints. They also shared a lot of case studies from engineering services platform , product design and service management to marketing promotion for the start-up growth.

HKETA Youth Joined the 3rd Ingdan iFuture Competition 2016
HKETA Youth was invited by Ingdan to join her 3rd Ingdan iFuture Competition 2016 at Cyberport of Hong Kong on 17th November 2016.
Our Youth Chairman, Derek Lee and one Youth member, Franklin Chan participated this event and met their iOT project teams to explore the potential and opportunity in the market. There were 8 shortlisted iOT project teams in the final stages to present their solutions with showcases in the ingdan experience centre.

HKETA Youth was invited by Career Centre of The Hong Kong of University of Science and Technology (HKUST) to make a industry sharing for a group of 60 engineering reserach post-graduates with other 5 industry professionals in form of small talk circles on 1st November, 2016.

HKETA Youth was invited by Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks (HKSTP) to join the event of APAC Innovation Summit 2016 at Sky100, International Commerce Centre of Hong Kong on 13th October 2016.

HKETA Youth Jointly Organized Networking Dinner with HKSTP
Theme : Electronic Sensors/ ICs Business and Application – Successful Cases Sharing
HKETA Youth jointly organized with HKSTP (Electronic Clusters) for September Networking Dinner with the theme of “Electronic Sensors/ ICs Business and Application – Successful Cases Sharing”. It was successfully held on 30th Sept, 2016 at Happiness Cuisine at Science Park.
Over 70 participants including guests, industry fellows and young students of UG/PG from local universities of HKU, HKUST and PolyU joined our dinner event. Our guests made a great presentation and discussion to explore electronic sensors innovation, technology and ecosystem in Hong Kong by HKSTP (Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks) who supported the development of innovative technologies in the areas of Smart City, Healthy Ageing and Robotics in Hong Kong. Also, two recognized technology enterprises from local industry focusing on developing and marketing their sensors/ semi-conductor/microelectronic product solutions in Hong Kong were invited to share their successful cases. They explored their business models, sales and marketing how to penetrate their product solutions successfully into the market globally based on their sensors/ICs technology and application.

Congratulations to Our Youth Member, Chris Tsui Featured his Story in HKUST Career Guide 2017
Our Youth Member, Chris Tsui wrote up his good story in HKUST’s Career Guide 2017 how he stepped into the market after his graduation from a Graduate Researcher, MPhil in Engineering (Energy Technology Concentration) and BEng of Chemical Engineering of HKUST.
Chris showed an inspiring story for his own road and provided some good career tips for young people. He shared his career experience through our Youth’s events to other local students from time to time how to equip yourselves to be professional and make achievement on your personal fulfillment in the lifelong learning process.
Chris joined our Youth team two years ago during his post-graduate stage and developed our youth platform and facility for young students. He is currently our Youth Event Coordinator for our Youth events, forums and other activities.

Industry Sharing for Post-Graduates of MSc Engineering at HKUST
HKETA Youth was invited by Career Centre of The Hong Kong of University of Science and Technology (HKUST) for an industry sharing session to a class of MSc of Engineering post-graduates on 14th Sept, 2016. The theme of this forum discussion was "Job Search Strategies for Engineering Jobs in Hong Kong". Mr. Derek Lee, our Youth Chairman shared his industry experience and advice on the employment landscape of engineering field in Hong Kong to the post-gruaduate students. We had a lot of open discussion on traditional hiring channels and how students using new ways in the job market. Also we explored a lot of global opportunities and challenges in the current tech market in the small talk circles session.
In the event, other industry seniors from Corporate Human Resources and Training Development also participated in the forum discussion and small talk circles to provide valuable advices to students from different business and corporate aspects.

Congratulations to Our Youth Member, Blueinno Technology Featured in Singtao's Smart Parents Magazine (Vol. 333)
Our Youth Member, Ms Monica Leung and her technology startup, Blueinno Technology, launched her STEAM education program recently into the market. Her kids education program was well recognized by the market and was featured in Singtao’s Smart Parents (親子王) on 8th Sept 2016.
STEAM (Science, Technology, Electronics, Art, and Mathematic) is a new trend for technology education in the world nowadays, STEAM education inspires our next generation on the spirit of invention and innovation. It helps kids to enhance the logical thinking and critical analysis to catch up with the future technology world.

The theme of this forum was “Career Opportunity for Tech Marketing in Hong Kong”. This Youth Forum was one of our Youth Sub-committee’s major activities in a quarterly basis. It was designed for UG/PG students and young alumni in local Universities for gathering and networking fellowship in our Youth platform.
In this forum, Peter Lam, Managing Director of Engineering of HKT was invited as our guest speaker to present the ICT/IOT market in Hong Kong and address the market opportunity for young professional. Participants could face to face, interacted with our speaker sharing on current the rapid change on network and information technology perspective, the challenge & opportunity of engineering & management field in the market, and advice on future career development for the young people.
Around 50 participants including guests and young students of UG/PG from HKUST and PolyU with different faculties (such as engineering, business, IT and social science) joined our forum. We had a lot of open and insight discussions under several round of small talks in our sharing sessions. Students are also participated very active and with proactive attitude to voice out their concerns, expectation and expect to make contribution to the society in their future.
At the end of the forum, there was a panel discussion with a group of professionals from Universities, Youth members of HKETA, and other guests from industry to share with young students (from engineering and business perspectives) in the right way, how to keep abreast of latest technologies applying into the business world, and extend to personal & business assessments, how to develop the core competency in the market and, more important is how to equip yourselves to be professional, make sustainable growth, and achievement on your personal fulfillment in the lifelong learning process.

HKETA Youth Joined Partnership with Arrow Open Lab
Hong Kong, 8 Aug, 2016 – Hong Kong Electronics and Technologies Association (HKETA), a non-profit technology association aims to promote entrepreneurship and foster business synergies for local industry of electronics and technologies in Hong Kong announced today that partnership is formed with Arrow Open Lab and our Youth Sub-committee. Our Youth team has been established in early 2014 and her target is to develop an innovative platform for career development, mentorship service, and drive the synergy for the young people continuing to passion on the technology market.
Arrow Open Lab has been launched in June 2016 at Hong Kong Science Park to support our Hong Kong’s innovation and technology development. They target to technology entrepreneurs and corporations pursuing innovation and product development in Hong Kong and help local developers to enhance product design, shorten the development cycle and reduce costs.
In this partnership, Arrow Open Lab provides engineering service and technical consultation to our student members and startups of our young corporate members to design their products and accelerate the development cycle of hardware and software solutions. Especially in the electronics and engineering fields, they can support in engineering expertise in areas of network connectivity, sensing and controlling and system integration.

HKETA Youth was invited by The University of Hong Kong (HKU) for conducting two sessions of an industry sharing to the undergraduates of a School of Business from a China’s University on 20th July and 1st August 2016. The main themes of the two corporate sharing workshops were:

Congratulations to Our Youth Member with her Startup, Blueinno Technology Featured in HKET
Our Youth Member, Ms Monica Leung and her technology education startup, Blueinno Technology, who is also our corporate member in HKETA, launched her kid technology program recently into the market. Her program is well recognized by the market and also was featured in Hong Kong Economics Times (HKET) on 29th June 2016.
The mission of her startup is to promote invention and innovation in Hong Kong as well as to Asia Pacific, inspire kids on the spirit of invention, and be positive towards tomorrow’s innovation economy.
Her kid technology development program, with the art of state in the coding curriculum, is specially designed for inventing and inspiring kids to explore today’s technology and science through the skill-sets of Electronics, Coding, Robotics and Design thinking methodology. It is more important for the kids to visualize the technology concept easily and empower their mind for imagination and creation. They may naturally come out of something with “strong and positive” in their mind through the class.

Industry Sharing for a PolyHack Team at PolyU COMP
HKETA Youth was invited by the Dept of Computing of The Hong Kong of Polytechnic University (PolyU) for conducting an industry sharing to the students of PolyHack team on 11th June 2016. Mr. Derek Lee, our Youth Chairman shared his experience and industry insight for the entrepreneur process including how to materialize and commercialize from the idea to the product solution in engineering perspective. The students were from Departments of Nursing, Design, EIE, EE and Computing.
Innovative Technology Showcase at PolyU EIE
The “Innovative Technology Showcase” was organized by the Department of Electronic and Information Engineering (EIE), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) on 16th May 2016. The event was a continuation of the successful “Innovative Technology Series” training workshops which have been jointly organized by PolyU EIE, ASTRI and HKSTP. This showcase aimed at fostering collaboration between PolyU EIE and the engineering professional from industry the latest research achievements of the research groups as well as the undergraduate students’ final-year project work. Nearly 60 research and final-year student projects were demonstrated in the Innovative Technology Showcase.

HKIE Electronics Symposium 2016 at HKSTP
The Electronics Symposium 2016 was organized by The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), Electronics Division and supported by HKETA on 14th April 2016 in the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park. The theme of this symposium this year was “Smart City – Cliché or Real Challenge” and 2 keynotes, 10 talks, & 2 panel discussions were provided with the topics of interest including smart energy, smart transportation, smart building, smart public safety and smart healthcare.
Our Youth team was actively participated in the Organizing Committee (OC) team of this event in the past three years. Mr. Derek Lee, our Chairman of Youth team of HKETA was invited to be Vice Chairman of the OC team this year to support and organize the industry talks and programs for the symposium.
In this year, Remote Technology, one of our HKETA corporate members, won the champion of the Hong Kong Electronics Division Project Competition 2016 (HKEPC 2016) under Industry Category. They are also invited to provide a talk for “A Case of SmartCon” in the Symposium.
Final Judging for Computing Solved It (CSI) Inception Competition at PolyU
Computing Solved It (CSI) Inception was founded and organized by the Department of Computing at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, a team-based problem-solving competition. The objective of this competition was to challenge the Engineering freshmen to innovate technologies and their applications. This year's grand challenge is “The iBalance for Life and Work” and the final judging was held on 1st April, 2016 at PolyU.
Mr. Derek Lee, our Chairman of Youth team of HKETA was invited as one of final judges in the panel. There were 10 groups into final stages with showcases for their solutions and products in the forms of demonstrations in booth sessions and presentation.

Spring Newsletter for HKETA Events at PolyU EIE
HKETA Youth was working closely with local universities in Hong Kong to develop Youth activity and career development for students. The Chair Professor and Head of PolyU EIE Dept, Professor Michael Somekh was appointed as our one of Honorrary Members of HKETA. Dr. Ben Chen, Dr. Wah Ching Lee and six of EIE students also joined our Annual Dinner event in Jan, 2016 to foster a closer network with the industry. The 41st Annual Dinner of HKIE
Mr. Derek Lee, our Youth Chairman was invited by The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), Electronic Division to join the 41st Annual Dinner of the Institutions which was held at the Convention Hall, Hall, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Harbour Road, Wanchai, on Monday, 22nd February 2016.
Derek was also the Vice Chairman of Organization Committee of Hong Kong Electronic Symposium 2016 by HKIE Electronic Division. The symposium will be held at Hong Kong Science Park on 14th April, 2016 and the theme for this year is “Smart City – Cliché or Real Challenge".

Industry Sharing for an Entrepreneur Class of Master of Engineering at HKU
HKETA Youth was invited by Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) of The University of Hong Kong (HKU) for sharing her industry and technology startup experiences to an entrepreneur class of Master of Engineering on 19th Feb, 2016.
Mr Derek Lee, our Youth Chairman and Ms Monica Leung, our Youth member, shared their industry experience, advices on the entrepreneur process and some tips on early stage of startup formation through the case studies presented by the postgraduates.
Industry Visit for Undergraduates of Xidian University of China to HKSTP
HKETA Youth co-organized with The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and Research Institute of Tsinghua Univserity in Shenzhen (深圳清華大學研究院) to organize half-day of industry visit to Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (HKSTP) for a class of undergraduates from Xidian University (西安电子科技大学) on 29 Jan 2016. In this event, the students are participated to understand the operation and entrepreneur program of HKSTP. We also arranged to visit an IC-design based technology company : Minilogic Device Corporation in HKSTP that they shared with our students how to run a tech startup and consequently to make it IPO in Hong Kong.
Through the visit and industry sharing, the attendants realized how HKSTP to provide an innovation and technology ecosystem to the tech companies, incubation programme for startups, and nurture technology talents in Hong Kong. The tech company also shared their entrepreneur process and experience with the students. It could strengthen the corporation and technology sharing between Mainland China and Hong Kong.
At the end of the event, Derek Lee, our Youth Chairman and WK Lee of HKU/EEE make the conclusion for the young people specially for the current global business situation, challenge and opportunity both in Mainland China and Hong Kong. Students are required to well prepare for the next wave of economic growth with industrial v4.0 come.
HKETA Annual Dinner cum Inauguration Ceremony
HKETA Youth actively participated into our Annual Dinner this year and made sponsorship two tables to local universities, HKUST and PolyU that students can join our dinner and inauguration ceremony to explore more opportunity and networking from industry.

- Technology Startups in Hong Kong, Opportunity and Challenges for the Young Entrepreneur by Joe Wong
The Annual Dinner was successfully held at Happiness Cuisine, Hong Kong Science Park on 15th Jan, 2016. There were 34 tables with over 400 people from industry, our members, academic institutions and government to join our dinner event.
